& boys.

The mother ordered girls & women. She was responsible for cooking, other women

helped her.

When the family was too big the elder son built a new house

& lived with his own family.

Men & women had different jobs. Children prepared for their future life very

early. Men usually mended, knitted fishing nets, stored up firewood & repaired buildings.

Women span, wove, needle-worked, cooked, made hay, gathered berries, mushrooms, baby-sat.

Girls over 8 began to collect their trousseau: a wedding costume, shirts, towels,

table-cloths & sashes.

From 16-17 boys & girls went to goolyanye (a holiday party). Boys &

girls in Pomorye married late (at the age of 21-26), because the family was big to do all the work.
