Many many years ago, in the Mesozoic era, there lived great reptiles who owned the world.

Some reptiles ate and killed each other. Others ate plants.
They were known as dinosaurs.

The word "dinosaur" means "terrible lizard". But the dinosaurs were not lizards. These were huge reptiles.

The Mesozoic era is divided into three periods: Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous.

In the Triassic period, the first dinosaurs, pterosaurs, marine reptiles and mammals appeared. They were a plesiosaurus, eoraptor, a Petitinosaurus and many other species.

The Jurassic period was the time of bird formation. At that time there were stegosaurs, brachiosaurs and archeopteryx. A film was shot under the title "Jurassic Park", which shows what will happen if people existed during the Jurassic period. That's why this is the most popular of the three periods.

The Cretaceous period, the second most popular. At that time, there were tritseratops, alamosaurus, tyrannosaurus, velociraptor, elasmosaurus and pteranodone.

There are many theories about why the dinosaurs died out.
The climate may have got colder, and dinosaurs, who are used to warm climates, have died. Another theory suggests that a giant meteorite crashed into the ground and killed them. Nevertheless, thousands of found keys do not explain the mystery of the Mesozoic era.

But the dinosaurs did not disappear without a trace. Today there are no dinosaurs, but their descendants have turned into birds.
