Fire class - A: burning solids.
Fire subclass - A1: burning of solid materials, accompanied by smoldering (for example, wood, paper, coal, textiles).
Recommended extinguishing media for subclass A1 fires:
water with wetting agents, sprayed water;
foams, fire-extinguishing powders of ABCE type.
Fire subclass - A2: burning of solid materials, not accompanied by smoldering (for example, rubber, rubber, plastic).
To extinguish fires of subclass A2, all types of fire extinguishing agents can be used: water, foam, powders, freons.

Fire class - B: burning of liquid substances.
Fire subclass - B1: burning of polar combustible and flammable liquids, on which foams are intensively destroyed (for example, alcohols, ethers, etc.).

Fire subclass B2: burning of non-polar flammable and flammable liquids and substances that melt when heated (for example, gasoline, kerosene, fuel oil, oils, stearin, some synthetic materials).
Recommended extinguishing media for subclass B2 fires:
- foam;
- mist water;
- freons;
- general purpose fire extinguishing powders;
- aerosol fire extinguishing and inert diluents: N2, CO2, etc

Fire class - C: combustion of gaseous combustible substances (for example: methane, hydrogen, propane).
Recommended extinguishing media for class C fires:
volumetric quenching and phlegmatization with gas compositions;
general purpose fire extinguishing powders;
foam, water (for equipment cooling).

Fire class - D: combustion of metals and metal-containing substances.
Fire subclass - D1: burning of metals, with the exception of alkaline (for example, aluminum, magnesium and their alloys).
Recommended extinguishing media for Division D1 fires:
- powders of the PHC type;
- nitrogen;
- argon.

Fire subclass - D2: burning of alkali metals (for example, potassium, sodium).
Special purpose fire extinguishing powders and inert gases can be used to extinguish fires of subclass D2.
Fire subclass - D3: combustion of solutions with a concentration of metal-containing substances up to 60% of the mass.
To extinguish fires of subclass D3, it is allowed to use foams, gas compositions, fire extinguishing powders of all kinds.

Fire class - E: burning of a fire object that is energized by electric current.
To extinguish class E fires, it is recommended to use:
water, including finely dispersed;
halogen-containing products;
carbon dioxide;
aerosol fire extinguishing;
powders (when using hand-held fire extinguishers and barrels, they are used to extinguish equipment with voltage up to 1000 V).
