Robert's got a quick hand. He'll look around the room, he

wont tell you his plan. He's got a rolled cigarette hanging out his mouth. He's a cowboy kid.
Yeah! He found a six-shooter gun in his dad's closet, with the box of fun things. I don't even know what, but he's coming for you. Yeah, He's coming for you!
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks, You better run, better run, outrun my gun. All the other kids with the pumped up kicks, You better run, better run, faster than my bullet.

Composition and inspiration

"I wrote 'Pumped Up Kicks' when I began to read about

the growing trend in teenage mental illness. I wanted to understand the psychology. It was terrifying how mental illness among youth had skyrocketed in the last decade. I was scared to see where the pattern was headed if we didn't start changing the way we were bringing up the next generation.”

The issue of youth violence is a matter close to the group. Foster

was bullied in high school, while bassist Cubbie Fink has a cousin who survived the Columbine High School massacre in 1999. Fink said of his cousin's experience, "She was actually in the library when everything went down, so I actually flew out to be with her the day after it happened and experienced the trauma surrounding it and saw how affected she was by it. She is as close as a sister, so obviously, it affected me deeply. So to be able to have a song to create a platform to talk about this stuff has been good for us."

I think you heard it

I wish I found

some better sounds  No one’s ever heard,  I wish I had a better voice  That sang some better words,  I wish I found some chords  In an order that is new,  I wish I didn't have to rhyme  Every time I sang.

I was told when I get older  All my fears would shrink,  But now I’m insecure  And I care what people think.  My name's 'Blurryface' and I  Care what you think.  My name's 'Blurryface' and I  Care what you think.

Wish we could turn back time,  To the good ol’ days,  When our momma sang us to sleep.  But now we’re stressed out.  Wish we could turn back time,  To the good ol’ days,  When our momma sang us to sleep.  But now we’re stressed out.
