Before digital photography, photographs were produced through a process of exposing light-sensitive film to a source of light. This was then processed using certain liquid chemicals to create the final image on paper or some other material. With cameras in the 1800s, the exposure to light was a lengthy process. People sitting for portraits would often have to sit still for 15 minutes or more. This may explain why few people are smiling in these early photos.
Today, digital cameras have done away with the need for film and chemicals. Light passes through a lens and is picked up by electronic photo-detectors. These allow a digital image to be produced, which can be stored as a computer file and manipulated digitally. As technology has improved, and become less expensive, it has now become possible to take high-quality digital pictures with just a standard mobile phone.

The traditional family structure in the United States is considered a family support system involving two married individuals, 1 male 1 female, providing care and stability for their biological offspring. However, this two-parent nuclear family has become less prevalent, and alternative family forms have become more common. The family is created at birth and establishes ties across generations. Those generations, the extended family of aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins, can hold significant emotional and economic roles for the nuclear family. ​  Over time, the structure has had to adapt to very influential changes, including divorce and the introduction of single-parent families, teenage pregnancy and unwed mothers, same-sex marriage and increased interest in adoption. Social movements such as the feminist movement and the stay-at-home father have contributed to the creation of alternative family forms, generating new versions of the American family.

Interviewer: How important are books to you?
Student: Books are really important for me because I’ve had my habit of reading something for pleasure since my childhood. I still read them when I happen to find time for that.
Interviewer: What kinds of books do you like?
Student: That really depends. Sometimes I can be in the mood for some serious literature and sometimes there are moments when I prefer something funny and entertaining. As for my favourite genres, they are sci-fi and classics.
Interviewer: If you wrote a book, what would you write about?
Student: That’s an interesting question. I reckon I’d write about my life because I’ve had quite a lot of interesting things, I mean I’ve experienced a lot of situations which I’d like to share. And I feel it wouldn’t be the most boring book in the world.
Interviewer: Do you think the Internet will make books disappear?
Student: Probably not. The internet won’t make books disappear completely because there’ll always be fans of paper books. For such people it’s a kind of a ritual to hold a paper book, to turn pages, to feel the smell of paper and so on. But definitely, the number of digital books will increase significantly.
Interviewer: How can reading English books benefit your language skills?
Student: Frankly, I can’t think of anything, which is not a benefit when we talk about reading English books. It’s one of the best ways to enlarge our vocabulary and eventually improve speaking skills.

a couple of pictures to illustrate the project “Free Time Activities” and now I’d like to comment on them.
brief description of the photos:
So, in the first picture you can see a girl, sitting in a café and looking at her tablet. She might be watching a funny video or texting her friend.
In the second picture there’s a girl climbing a horse. She is wearing special outfit, which can prove that she goes horse riding on a regular basis.
justification:
I believe these two pictures suit our project perfectly, since they show two completely different types of people’s pastimes.
say in what way the pictures are different:
Obviously, there are differences between these two pictures. Unlike the girl in the second photo, who is engaged in active recreation outdoors, the girl in the first one is absorbed in her tablet doing not much physically.
justification:
Both types of these free time activities are quite popular among different kinds of people.
mention the advantages and disadvantages:
Both pastimes have clear pros and cons. Speaking about using a tablet, it’s really convenient for communication but can be sometimes harmful for eyes. As for horse riding it’s definitely more hazardous in terms of physical injuries while it’s a well-known fact that riding a horse can help people relax and relieve mental tension.
express your opinion on the subject of the project:
Personally, I’d prefer to spend my free time riding a horse as I feel as if I lack physical activity due to the fact that I have to spend most of my time sitting at my desk at school.
