Last year Adam set off to climb Everest with his brother. Unfortunately 10 metres from the summit his brother slipped and fell. Adam was tied with his brother, so they both fell over 1000 metres. Adam’s brother broke his leg and they both had to be rescued.
If Adam hadn’t been tied with his brother he would have climbed Everest.

Sophie spent 8 years writing a novel that she was sure would become a best-seller. Unfortunately the day Sophie finished writing it, her house burnt down. Her laptop and all the back-up copies of the novel were completely destroyed in the fire.

A couple of years ago Thomas set off to sail around the world on his own. The journey took him 3 months, but unfortunately when he was just 500 metres from land his boat was hit by the lightning. The boat sank and Thomas had to swim to safety.

Stephen used to play the guitar. A few years ago he was on his way to an audition to become the Imagine Dragons’ new guitarist. Unfortunately while he was getting out of the taxi, the driver closed the door too quickly and broke two of his fingers.

Keira used to be a fantastic tennis player. She won the junior championship at Wimbledon when she was 16. Unfortunately one day Keira fell off her scooter and broke her wrist. She hasn’t been able to play tennis since.

Last December Stan set off to walk to the South Pole alone. Unfortunately just a few miles from the Pole his compass broke and he didn’t know which way to go. Stan got completely lost and had to be rescued by helicopter.

Last June rose won a travel competition. The prize was an all-expense-paid trip around the world leaving on July 1st. Unfortunately the letter telling her that she had won got lost in the post and Rose didn’t get the letter until July 2nd.
